Boston University men’s rowing will begin its spring season on March 29 with a dual race against Navy at Lake Carnegie in Princeton, New Jersey. The event marks the Terriers’ first official contest against the Midshipmen in four years, with races scheduled to start at 9:20 a.m.

The matchup is significant as it renews competition between two programs that last met for a dual race in March 2022. Boston University will field four crews for the opener. Originally, the Terriers were set to compete against Columbia on this date, but that race has been moved to the Lake Morey Invite later in the schedule.

In October, Boston University began its 2025-26 campaign at the Head of the Charles Regatta, where its top Championship 8+ crew finished tenth among collegiate teams. The team concluded last spring ranked fourteenth at the IRA National Championship Regatta. Navy finished just behind BU in fifteenth place at that championship; their Varsity 8 boat was twelfth nationally after placing sixth in its Petite Final.

Looking back on previous encounters, Boston University and Navy competed during spring training in 2024 and previously raced head-to-head at Lake Carnegie and Overpeck Park over recent years. In both locations, BU secured victories over Navy across several events.

This year’s roster includes thirty-three returning letterwinners and eighteen newcomers. Head coach Thomas Bohrer enters his eighteenth season leading the program, supported by associate head coach Alex Dillon and assistant coach Michael Colella. Senior Grant Gwadz returns as captain following an Empacher-IRCA All-American selection last season; eight out of ten Empacher-IRCA Scholar-Athletes also return to compete this year.

The IRCA/IRA Preseason Coaches Poll placed Boston University fourteenth nationally on March 25—two spots behind Navy and one behind Cornell—with Wisconsin and Columbia trailing closely behind. Graduate student Alessandro Gardino was named to both the IRCA Athlete Watchlist and For Stars Network Annual Watchlist alongside junior Daniel Malecki and sophomore Cormac Rooney earlier this year.

Following Sunday’s opener versus Navy, Boston University will host Northeastern for their only home contest on April 4 before traveling to Cornell on April 11. Additional highlights include cup races at Lake Morey Invite from April 25–26 and participation in Eastern Sprints on May 17 ahead of June’s IRA National Championship Regatta.
