The Boston University men’s rowing team began its spring season with four victories over Navy on March 29 at Lake Carnegie in New Jersey.

The event marked the start of the 2026 campaign for Boston University, with all four of its crews defeating their counterparts from Navy. Each win was by a margin of at least 3.7 seconds or more.

The day started with the Fourth Varsity 8 boat, coxed by Ben Brinckerhoff and stroked by Mason Laundry, finishing nearly 16 seconds ahead of Navy. The Terriers recorded a time of 5:55.74 compared to the Midshipmen’s 6:11.56. The Third Varsity 8, led by coxswain Luke Stroh and stroke Griffith Coupland, won its race in 5:51.78 while Navy finished in 5:55.57.

In another close contest, Boston University’s Second Varsity 8 crossed the line first in a time of 5:50.86 under coxswain James Smith and stroke Ambrose Hennessy; Navy followed at 5:57.38. The Varsity 8 capped off the morning with a victory as well, clocking in at 5:36.50 under coxswain Emily Slawin and stroke Alessandro Gardino—more than six seconds ahead of Navy’s time.

This latest result marks the third consecutive dual race win for Boston University’s top varsity boat over Navy within six years.

Looking ahead, Boston University will host Northeastern on April 4 to compete for the Arlett Cup.
