The Boston University men’s swimming and diving team remains in fourth place after the third day of the Patriot League Championships at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis, Maryland. The team’s performance on Friday included its first conference diving medal in a decade and a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Junior Zein Mahana secured a bronze medal in the men’s 3-meter dive with a score of 332.75, becoming the first Terrier diver since David Thiede in 2016 to reach the podium at the Patriot League meet. Freshman Ethan Wong also competed strongly, finishing sixth with a score of 312.60.
In relay action, the quartet of junior Henry Dvorak, senior Ben Cho, freshman Jinu Hong, and freshman Hugh Harrison set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:19.79, earning fourth place.
Sophomore Charlie Nenchev reached two championship finals during the session, taking sixth place in the 100 backstroke (48.03) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:37.31). Senior Tony Ponomarev finished eighth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.44 seconds. Additional eighth-place finishes came from freshman Ethan Zhou in the 400 individual medley and Dvorak in the 100 butterfly.
At this stage of the championships, Boston University holds fourth position with 681 points. Loyola Maryland is currently third with 720 points, while Bucknell follows BU with 590 points as they move into the final day of competition.
