Sophomores Cole Hutson and Mikhail Yegorov from the Boston University men’s ice hockey team have been recognized with weekly awards by Hockey East, according to an announcement made Monday.
Hutson was selected as the Hockey East Defender of the Week, while Yegorov earned the Goaltender of the Week honor. Both players contributed significantly during Boston University’s sweep over No. 10/11 ranked Boston College this past weekend.
Yegorov was named the No. 1 star in both games against Boston College. He recorded 52 saves out of 54 shots faced over the two games, making several key stops. On Saturday, he denied three strong attempts from James Hagens, who leads the league in scoring, including a breakaway in the second period that preserved BU’s lead at 2-1. This marks the third time this season that Yegorov has allowed one goal or fewer in consecutive games.
Hutson contributed three primary assists across both victories, including two during Saturday’s 5-1 win at Boston College. He assisted on what proved to be game-winning goals each night and added a shorthanded assist that extended BU’s lead early in the third period on Saturday. Hutson is a Hobey Baker nominee and enters the last weekend of regular season play with nine goals and 21 assists for a total of 30 points. He has surpassed both 20 assists and 30 points in each of his first two seasons at Boston University.
