The Boston University softball team earned a doubleheader sweep against Stonehill on March 18, winning both games by shutout at home. The Terriers improved their record to 20-10 with an 8-0 run-rule victory in the first game and a 5-0 win in the second, while Stonehill fell to 1-16.

The sweep was highlighted by strong offensive and pitching performances. Junior Sophie Naivar and freshman Irys Kline each went 3-for-6 across the two games, with Naivar hitting two doubles and Kline adding a double and a home run. Both players contributed two RBIs apiece, joining juniors Livia Christopher and Kylie Doherty who also drove in two runs each.

Senior pitcher Kasey Ricard recorded her seventh shutout of the season in the opener, striking out seven batters while allowing five hits. Senior Haley Ganino followed with her first career solo shutout in game two, tallying three strikeouts and a personal-best five assists.

In game one, BU scored at least one run in each of the last four innings. Key moments included Kline’s three-run homer in the second inning and Naivar’s RBI double later on. The Terriers secured the win via walk-off after Brooke Deppiesse’s RBI single brought home Aimee Metz.

Game two saw BU take an early lead with back-to-back RBI singles from Christopher and Cara Edwards. Doherty added another run with a sacrifice fly before Naivar and Coyle drove in additional runs during the fifth inning. Ganino limited Stonehill to just one hit over the final two innings to complete her shutout.

Looking ahead, Boston University will begin Patriot League play at Lafayette with a three-game series scheduled for March 21-22. Last year, BU swept Lafayette at home, while two years ago they won all three games on the road.
