Boston University announced on March 24 that its softball team will open a nine-game homestand by facing the University of Connecticut at BU Softball Field, with first pitch scheduled for Wednesday at 3 p.m.

The matchup features two defending conference champions: Boston University, reigning Patriot League champion, and UConn, last season’s Big East champion. The Terriers are currently riding a 16-game win streak and have an undefeated home record of 8-0 this season.

According to the announcement, BU recently swept Lafayette in conference play by a combined score of 35-13. Junior Kylie Doherty set a new program record with her career total of 33 home runs and leads the team with 44 runs batted in. Senior Brooke Deppiesse is batting .391 with four home runs and has scored 33 runs so far this year. Freshman Irys Kline and junior Kyomi Apalit are also hitting above .350.

On the pitching side, senior Kasey Ricard leads BU’s staff with a record of 15-5, an earned run average of 3.47, eight shutouts, one save, and has tallied as many strikeouts as innings pitched—121 in both categories. Senior Haley Ganino (6-1) and sophomore Danika Nell (2-3) also contributed wins last week.

UConn enters the contest holding a road record of six wins and seven losses this season. Cat Petteys leads their offense with a .359 batting average along with eight home runs. Pitchers Caprice Bohmer (3-6) and Jessica Walter (3-8) have combined for over one hundred innings pitched between them.

Boston University holds an all-time series lead over UConn at fifteen wins to eight and has won each of their last eight meetings. Last year’s games included two Terrier victories on UConn’s field as well as a close win during their previous meeting in Boston.

After facing UConn, Boston University will resume Patriot League play by hosting Lehigh for three games starting Saturday.
