Boston University announced on Apr. 7 that its softball team will conclude a nine-game homestand by hosting Providence College in a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, with the first game set to begin at 2:30 p.m. at BU Softball Field.

This matchup is significant as both teams have shown strong performances this season. Boston University currently holds a record of 29-11 overall and 8-1 in Patriot League play, while Providence stands at 16-13 overall and 7-2 in the Big East Conference.

The Terriers recently swept Bucknell by a combined score of 39-0 over three games, improving their home record to 14-1 for the season. Boston University is undefeated against non-conference opponents at home, including run-rule victories over UConn, Brown (twice), UMass Lowell, and Stonehill. Senior Brooke Deppiesse leads the team with a .382 batting average and has contributed six home runs and 34 RBIs this year. Junior Kylie Doherty owns a program-record fifteen home runs and is close to breaking both school and Patriot League records for RBIs.

Senior Megan Coyle made history last Friday by driving in nine runs during a single game against Bucknell, earning her Patriot League Player of the Week as well as SI on Softball National Player of the Week honors. On the mound, senior Kasey Ricard leads with twenty-one wins this season along with one hundred sixty-five strikeouts across one hundred fifty-three innings pitched.

Providence enters after recent wins over Holy Cross and Dayton. The Friars are led offensively by Cameron Dunn who is batting .407 with eleven home runs this season. Their pitching staff features Alyssa Twomey with thirty-seven strikeouts in forty-one innings pitched.

Historically, Boston University leads the all-time series against Providence with twenty-six wins, seventeen losses, and two ties dating back to 1988. Last year’s meetings saw closely contested games including an extra-inning tie due to darkness.

Looking ahead after Wednesday’s doubleheader, Boston University will begin a seven-game road trip starting at Colgate for another conference series.
