Junior Karsen Vesty and senior Peace Omonzane from the Boston University track & field program have been named Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year, according to an announcement made by the league on Wednesday.
This marks the third consecutive indoor season that Boston University has won both Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. It is also the first time in Patriot League history that a single program has achieved this feat for three straight indoor seasons and swept the awards in four overall years.
Omonzane, a senior, received her first career Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. She previously earned her third consecutive and fourth overall Patriot League Field Athlete of the Meet at the 2026 Patriot League Indoor Championships. At this event, she secured gold medals in both the long jump and triple jump, setting new meet records with jumps of 6.22 meters and 13.21 meters, respectively. Her long jump was also a new school record indoors. Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Omonzane holds a 3.84 GPA and majors in Psychology.

Karsen Vesty picked up his second career Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor after previously winning during the outdoor season in 2025. He won gold in the mile at this year’s indoor championships with a time of 4:05.02 and contributed to silver medal finishes for Boston University in both the 4×800 meter relay and distance medley relay events. Vesty is now a four-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree across cross country, indoor, and outdoor seasons. The Havelock North, New Zealand native maintains a 3.92 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering.

Several other Boston University athletes were recognized on Academic All-Patriot League teams for their performance at recent championships as well as their academic achievements:
Adrienne Buettner-Cable earned her second career Academic All-PL nod after placing third in the 3000 meters and fourth in the 5000 meters at this year’s championships; she holds a near-perfect GPA while studying health science.
Ijeoma Ezechukwu received her second such honor following silver medal performances in both individual sprints (200 meters) and relays (4×400 meters), maintaining strong academic standing as a public health major.
Ellie Roan was named to her first Academic All-PL team after top finishes among throwers—winning gold in weight throw—and studies public relations with an event management minor.
Jada Smith achieved her first selection to this team after being named Track Athlete of The Meet; she set records while winning multiple medals across sprint events.
Micah Perry was recognized for his achievements including victory in hurdles competition; he studies business administration with an emphasis on corporate finance.
Luke Riordan received his first academic recognition following success as a thrower at conference level meets while pursuing health studies.
Boston University’s continued dominance reflects consistent athletic achievement paired with high academic standards among its student-athletes.
