Boston University swimming & diving concludes home schedule at Boston Winter Open

The Boston University swimming and diving teams completed their home schedule on Saturday at the FitRec Competition Pool with the last sessions of the Boston Winter Open. The meet served as a final preparation for the upcoming Patriot League Championships.

Freshman Molly Barber won the women’s 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.16 seconds, while sophomore Cambria Jewett finished first in the women’s 200-yard butterfly, clocking a season-best 2:04.27.

On the men’s side, sophomore Giovanni Sullo took first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:47.97, marking the fourth-fastest performance in school history. Sophomore Abraham Lee placed second in the men’s 100 backstroke with a time of 49.40 seconds, moving into sixth place on BU’s all-time list for that event.

Senior Jackson Hogue ended his collegiate career by posting season-best times in both breaststroke events, finishing the 100-yard race in 56.32 seconds and recording a time of 2:04.71 in his final event, the 200-yard breaststroke.

Sophomore Julijana Jelic wrapped up her season by achieving a season-best mark of 57.10 seconds in the women’s 100 backstroke and later posted a time of 2:03.26 in the evening session for the women’s 200 backstroke. She also participated in a time trial for the women’s 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:00.17.

In diving, freshman Zack Lee was Boston University’s only competitor on Saturday and achieved his best score this season on the men’s three-meter board with a total of 287.15 points.

Other athletes who recorded two season-best performances included freshman Azariah Mamousette (49.84 in men’s 100 backstroke; 45.76 in men’s 100 freestyle), sophomore Galen Carter (50.08 in men’s 100 backstroke; 2:05.40 in men’s 200 breaststroke), sophomore Derek Cheng (21.21 and 46.12 for men’s sprint freestyles), and junior David Kohan (49.68 for men’s 100 butterfly; 1:55.61 for men’s 200 butterfly).

Additional top marks were set by freshman Andrew Ignatescu (1:40.84 in men’s 200 freestyle), junior Evan Liu (1:55.38 in men’s 200 backstroke), and junior Jonathan Tsang (1:49.48 in men’s 200 butterfly).
