The Boston University track and field teams began their outdoor season at the Raleigh Relays and Charles Austin Classic, according to a March 28 announcement.

These early-season meets are important for athletes as they aim to secure top marks, set school records, and qualify for upcoming championship events. The performances also offer a preview of the team’s potential this spring.

Freshman Samantha Lascelles made her outdoor collegiate debut in Raleigh by running the 800 meters in 2:09.05, which moved her into eighth place all-time at Boston University. In the discus event, four Terriers achieved top-10 program marks: Luke Riordan threw 50.74 meters to reach seventh all-time on the men’s side, while seniors Ellie Roan (49.04m), Madison Sorrell (45.72m), and Uchenna Uba (41.62m) placed third, fourth, and ninth respectively on the women’s list.

Uba also set a personal best in the hammer throw with a mark of 51.33 meters—good for fourth all-time—and posted a shot put distance of 14.05 meters to rank seventh in school history. Sophomore Brayden Irhuegbae’s triple jump of 14.47 meters earned him tenth place on BU’s all-time outdoor list.

Senior Ijeoma Ezechukwu recorded times of 11.87 seconds in the women’s 100 meters and 23.97 seconds in the women’s 200 meters; both results are now fourth fastest ever at BU outdoors. Senior Jada Smith joined Ezechukwu among BU’s best with a time of 24.36 seconds in the women’s 200 meters (tied for eighth). Junior Micah Perry ran an eighth-best-ever time of 14.36 seconds in the men’s 110-meter hurdles while freshman Nia McCurdy clocked a tenth-best mark of 56.10 seconds in the women’s 400 meters.

The Terrier women’s relay team finished third all-time at BU with their performance in the women’s four-by-100-meter relay (45.94s) at Charles Austin Classic; meanwhile, BU men posted sixth-fastest time ever (3:14:95) in their four-by-400-meter relay effort.

Among event winners were senior Peace Omonzane—who won both long jump (6.35m) and triple jump (12.72m)—and graduate student Gabe Hickman who took first place with his shot put toss of17 .15 m . Senior Owen Faulha claimed victory by throwing javelin57 .01 m .

These results reflect strong early form from both returning veterans and new contributors as Boston University prepares for more competition during its outdoor campaign.
