The Boston University women’s lacrosse team lost to the No. 14/15 ranked Yale Bulldogs with a final score of 17-5 at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday.
Boston University, now holding a 3-2 record for the season, trailed by only five goals entering the fourth quarter. However, Yale (3-0) outscored BU 8-1 in the final period to secure the win.
Junior Tessa Geddes and senior Elle Stevenson each scored twice for BU. Junior Leah Hodgins added one goal. On defense, sophomore Kaitlyn Barton collected three ground balls, controlled five draws, and caused one turnover.
In goal, junior Natalie Aiosa recorded 12 saves on 29 shots faced.
The game began with Yale scoring five unanswered goals in the first quarter. Stevenson put BU on the board late in that period after an assist from junior Jayne Feeney. Yale led 6-1 at the end of the first quarter.
BU outscored Yale in the second quarter but still went into halftime trailing 7-3. Barton started a transition that resulted in Hodgins’ goal early in the second period. Shortly after, Geddes scored her first goal of the game on a free position shot.
BU’s defense forced three shot clock violations by Yale during the second quarter.
Yale added two more goals in the third quarter before Stevenson scored again for BU with just over four minutes left in that frame.
Yale took control early in the fourth quarter by scoring four times within four minutes. Geddes ended that run with her second goal of the game midway through the period.
After this result, Boston University is now 7-13 all-time against Yale. The Bulldogs had an advantage on draw controls, winning them by a margin of 15-9. Aiosa has made at least ten saves in three out of five games so far this season.
Hodgins extended her point streak to fourteen games dating back to last year. Geddes now leads BU with twelve points this season following her performance against Yale.
Boston University’s next match will be against Stetson University in DeLand, Florida on Saturday, February 28th at noon.
