The Boston University women’s rowing team will compete at the NCAA Championships at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia, beginning May 29. This marks the program’s 11th overall and third consecutive appearance at the event.
Racing is scheduled to begin Friday morning with BU participating in three heats: Varsity 8+ at 8:42 a.m., Second Varsity 8+ at 9:22 a.m., and Varsity 4+ at 9:46 a.m. The top three crews from each heat advance to the A/B Semifinals, while others move on to C/D Semifinals. Due to expected inclement weather on Saturday, semifinals will be held Friday afternoon.
Boston University is one of ten automatic qualifiers among the field of twenty-two schools. The Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats are seeded No. 18, while the Second Varsity 8+ holds the No. 19 seed.
Earlier this month, BU secured its third-straight Patriot League title by sweeping all four races on May 15. The Varsity 8+ was named Boat of the Year for a third consecutive season, and director of women’s rowing Malcolm Doldron, associate head coach Lizzie Mitchell, and assistant coach Ciara O’Sullivan were recognized as Coaching Staff of the Year.
Seven athletes earned All-Patriot League honors following that championship win. Junior Ingrid Eshuis was also named to the Academic All-Patriot League team alongside her First Team selection.
