Boston University women’s ice hockey falls to No. 5 Northeastern

Boston University’s women’s ice hockey team lost 5-2 to No. 5 Northeastern on Friday at Walter Brown Arena. The Terriers now hold a record of 9-18-3 overall and 7-12-2 in Hockey East play, while Northeastern improved to 24-6-1 overall and 19-1-1 in the conference.

Northeastern took an early lead, scoring twice in the first period. BU responded early in the second period when senior Clara Yuhn scored unassisted after intercepting a pass and shooting from the top of the circle. Northeastern added another goal before the end of the second period, then extended their lead to 4-1 in the third.

Junior Neely Nicholson scored BU’s second goal with assists from sophomore Tessa Demain and senior Sydney Healey, narrowing the gap to two goals. However, Northeastern sealed their win with an empty net goal as time expired.

BU junior Mari Pietersen made 26 saves during the game. The Terriers were unable to convert on either of their two power plays, while Northeastern also went scoreless on three power play opportunities. Northeastern outshot BU by a margin of 31 to 22 and won more faceoffs, taking 31 compared to BU’s 18.

The Terriers blocked nine shots during the game; Northeastern blocked eleven.

Boston University will continue its homestand by hosting No. 6 UConn on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 4 p.m.
