The Boston University women’s rowing team is set to begin its spring season on March 27 with races against Cornell, George Washington, and Colgate on Cayuga Lake. The first race is scheduled for 11:10 a.m.

This event marks the start of a competitive schedule for the Terriers, who are coming off a successful previous year. The team will compete in both morning and afternoon sessions, facing each opponent in various boat classes throughout the day.

In their last meeting during the 2025 season opener, Boston University finished ahead of Cornell in all four races. The Varsity 4+ crew achieved the largest margin of victory with a lead of 21 seconds. At the 2025 Eastern Sprints, BU again outperformed Cornell in several events.

Against George Washington last year at Cornell and later at Eastern Sprints, BU placed ahead in all boats raced. The Second Varsity Four (2V4) posted a notable win with a cushion of 48 seconds over their rivals.

Boston University also recently competed against Colgate at the Patriot League Championship where they successfully defended their league title. In that event’s Varsity Eight (V8+) race, BU finished first by twelve seconds and previously bested Colgate during heats at Eastern Sprints as well.

The current roster consists of forty-eight athletes: eleven freshmen, fifteen sophomores, fifteen juniors and seven seniors. Malcolm Doldron is serving his third season as director of women’s rowing alongside associate head coach Lizzie Mitchell and assistant coach Ciara O’Sullivan. Last year’s championship made BU back-to-back Patriot League champions.

Looking forward this spring, Boston University’s schedule includes six race days—three featuring head-to-head matchups plus two postseason regattas including Eastern Sprints and another attempt at defending their Patriot League title on May 15 to qualify for NCAA Championships. Their only home race will be April 4 on the Charles River against Northeastern.
