Boston University women’s tennis falls to UMass in dual meet

The Boston University women’s tennis team was defeated by UMass 5-2 on Saturday at the Winchester Tennis Club. UMass secured the doubles point and went on to win four singles matches.

In singles play, sophomore Gabriella Mikaul lost a close match at the top spot, falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-7 (4). Junior Nancy Liu recovered after dropping her first set to win her match at line two with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore Madison Liu also recorded a victory for Boston University at line five, winning 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Junior Ellie Gyuro lost in three sets at line three with scores of 7-5, 1-6, 6-4.

The Terriers are scheduled to play their next match against Bucknell on Friday, February 20 at Winchester Tennis Club.

UMass took both completed doubles matches. Amanda de Oliveira and Amelia Tye defeated Blanka DeMicheli and Rhea Rai of BU by a score of 6-0. Madara Markevica and Martina Pavissich beat Emily Zhao and Madison Liu of BU, 6-1. The third doubles match between Mikaul/Nancy Liu and Faessler/Farima was not finished.

Singles results were as follows: Ella Faessler (UMass) defeated Gabriella Mikaul (BU), Nancy Liu (BU) defeated Amelia Tye (UMass), Martina Pavissich (UMass) defeated Ellie Gyuro (BU), Fiona Ao (UMass) defeated Vasilisa Borisova (BU), Madison Liu (BU) defeated Madara Markevica (UMass), and Renata Farima defeated Emily Zhao (BU).

The order of finish for singles matches was: lines six, four, five, two, three, one.
