The Boston University women’s tennis team was narrowly defeated by No. 38 Yale in a close 4-3 match on March 22.
The match was significant for the Terriers, who showed strong performance against a nationally ranked opponent. Securing the doubles point set an early tone for Boston University, but Yale ultimately claimed victory through its singles play.
Boston University started well in doubles, with seniors Emily Zhao and Rhea Rai winning at the No. 3 spot and sophomore Gabriella Mikaul and junior Nancy Liu defeating the No. 35 ranked pair at the top of the lineup to clinch the doubles point for BU. In singles competition, Yale took four points with wins at lines two, five, four, and three to secure their overall win.
Despite this, Mikaul fought back at the top of the lineup for BU by winning her first set decisively before taking a super tiebreaker to tie up the score. Zhao also battled through a tight super tiebreaker at line six to earn another point for BU. However, these efforts were not enough as Yale finished ahead.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday when they face Navy.
