Sophomore guard Camryn Collins led Northeastern to a 73-60 win over Stony Brook on Sunday at the Cabot Center, ending the Seawolves’ three-game winning streak. Collins scored a career-high 21 points, shooting 7-of-9 from the field and making all five of her free throws. She also contributed three assists and one steal.

Northeastern had three players reach double digits in scoring. Justice Tramble finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Yirsy Quéliz added 12 points and recorded a game-high four assists.

The Huskies achieved their best shooting performance of the season, hitting 58.5 percent of their shots from the field and converting eight of twelve attempts from three-point range (66.7 percent). The team also made 17 out of 22 free throws (77.3 percent) and forced Stony Brook into 19 turnovers, resulting in 22 points for Northeastern. The total of 73 points was the highest allowed by Stony Brook in conference play this season.

Collins surpassed her previous personal best of 19 points, which she had reached twice earlier this season against Sacred Heart and Monmouth. She went two-for-three from beyond the arc.

Northeastern started quickly with Tramble scoring early, but the first quarter included six lead changes before Nariyah Simmons hit a late three-pointer to give Northeastern an 18-13 advantage after one period. The Huskies made four out of five three-pointers in that opening quarter.

In the second quarter, Janay Brantley narrowed Northeastern’s lead to two for Stony Brook, but Northeastern responded with a nine-point run capped by Tramble’s three-pointer. By halftime, Northeastern led by nine after shooting nearly 67 percent in the period while holding Stony Brook to just over 31 percent.

Collins scored eight points in the third quarter as Northeastern extended its lead despite pushes from Brantley and Diaka Berete for Stony Brook. Beatriz Pérez Pulgar ended the third with a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give Northeastern a twelve-point cushion heading into the final period.

A Collins three-pointer gave Northeastern its largest lead at fourteen midway through the fourth quarter. The Huskies secured their victory at the free-throw line down the stretch, making ten out of fourteen attempts in that period. Quéliz scored most of her points after halftime, including key free throws late in the game.

Brantley led all scorers with 26 points for Stony Brook while Berete contributed nineteen.

Northeastern will travel next weekend for games against North Carolina A&T on Friday and Elon on Sunday.
