Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Massachusetts’ 7th district since 2019, recently shared her reflections on social media about notable events and figures affecting her community. Pressley replaced former U.S. Congress member Mike Capuano and has a history of service in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
On July 6, 2025, Pressley paid tribute to Sarah-Ann Shaw, describing her as a “trailblazing, beloved, & proud daughter of Roxbury” who devoted her life to uplifting Boston through storytelling and mentorship. “Sarah-Ann Shaw dedicated her life to educating & empowering the City of Boston by unapologetically telling our stories,” she wrote.
In another post on the same day, Pressley expressed gratitude for those who supported renaming a library in honor of Shaw’s legacy. She mentioned key figures and institutions involved in this tribute: “To have known Sarah-Ann was to love her…I’m grateful for her family, @MayorWu, @BPLBoston,” she noted.
Later that day, Pressley addressed the severe flooding situation in Texas. She expressed empathy for those affected and appreciation for first responders: “Heartbroken for everyone impacted by the catastrophic flooding in Texas,” she said while affirming readiness to assist families from Massachusetts’ 7th district.
Ayanna Pressley was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1974 and currently resides in Boston.
