Two athletes from the Boston University men’s track and field team set new school records at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday. Sophomore Thomas Cowan finished third in the elite 800-meter run, recording a time of 1:46.83. This performance surpassed his previous school record and matched the national indoor record for New Zealand, his home country. Cowan’s result is now ranked 15th in the NCAA for this season.

Senior Freddy Collins also broke a school record in the 3000-meter event. He finished eighth overall but won his heat with a time of 7:49.90, improving upon the previous school record of 7:50.96 set by Foster Malleck in 2025. This marks Collins’ second school record this season after previously setting a new mark in the indoor 5000 meters two weeks ago.

Other notable performances included sophomore Dan Hruska, who ran the 3000 meters in 7:54.84 to place 22nd overall and move into fourth all-time at Boston University. Sophomore Luke Riordan achieved a throw of 19.11 meters in the weight throw, placing him seventh all-time at BU.

Freshman Nicholas Cappucio posted a personal best of 6.92 seconds in the 60-meter dash finals, finishing sixth. Junior Shamiso Sikaneta completed the open 800 meters in ninth place with a time of 1:50.82.

Senior Micah Perry finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.18 seconds and won the long jump with a distance of 7.08 meters. Sophomore Brayden Irhuegbae cleared a height of 1.95 meters to win the high jump and took third place in the long jump with a personal best of 6.87 meters.

In field events, Riordan placed fourth in shot put with a throw of 16.26 meters, while sophomore Mykhaylo Hychka reached 17.81 meters on his final attempt to finish fourth in weight throw.
