Four Harvard women’s water polo players were named to the Association of College Water Polo Coaches All-America team on May 21. This marks the most selections in a single season in program history, with two athletes earning third-team honors and two receiving honorable mentions.
The recognition highlights a successful season for the Harvard team, reflecting both individual achievement and overall program progress. The selection includes sophomore goalie Orli Cooper and junior attacker Maya O’Dea, who were each named to the ACWPC All-America Third Team. It is the first time that Harvard has placed two players on the third team in one year.
Cooper and O’Dea were previously honored as Honorable Mentions last year. This year’s award makes them the fifth and sixth All-Americans in program history. Cooper, who was also named MVP of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Tournament, recorded 222 saves and 17 steals during a season where Harvard set a new record with 26 wins.
Sophomore defender Niki Piovan received her first Honorable Mention recognition after scoring 56 goals, making her second on the team despite playing defense. She also contributed with assists, steals, drawn kick-outs (DKOs), and blocks. Junior center defender Emma Gilbert earned an Honorable Mention for the third consecutive year after tallying 38 goals from her position along with strong defensive statistics.
Harvard finished its season with a record of 26-4, winning its second straight CWPA Championship and qualifying for back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances. All four athletes are expected to return for Harvard next season.
