Gardiner and Segalla advance to NCAA East quarterfinals in Lexington

Imogen Gardiner and Sydney Segalla advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinal races as the Boston College Women’s Track & Field team competed in the NCAA East First Round at the University of Kentucky’s Outdoor Track & Field Complex on May 28.

Gardiner began competition in the first round of the 1500 meters. The Sydney, Australia, native was assigned to the fourth and final heat, where she finished third with a time of 4:13.59, automatically qualifying for Saturday’s quarterfinal.

Segalla competed next in the first round of the 400 meters. Racing in heat three, she crossed the finish line at 50.79 seconds, which was best in her heat and fourth overall for the event, securing automatic qualification for the 400 meter quarterfinal.

The Eagles are scheduled to compete in four events on Saturday. In addition to their respective quarterfinals, Gardiner will participate in the 5000 meter semifinal at 8:10 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Segalla will join Anna Sonsini, Anna Becker, and Gina Certo for the 4×400 meter quarterfinal at 8:45 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Boston College continues its efforts at these NCAA championships with multiple athletes set for upcoming rounds.
