Northeastern University’s men’s basketball team lost to Hampton University 76-65 on Saturday at the Hampton Convocation Center. Northeastern, now 6-22 overall and 2-15 in conference play, held a five-point lead at halftime but struggled offensively in the second half.
William Kermoury led Northeastern with his first collegiate double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds off the bench. Other Huskies in double figures included Youri Fritz with 13 points and eight rebounds, Mike Loughnane with 10 points and seven rebounds, and Xavier Abreu who contributed 10 points and four rebounds.
The game was closely contested in the first half, featuring six ties and thirteen lead changes. Northeastern finished the half on an 11-2 run over the final two minutes and thirty-eight seconds to secure a 38-33 advantage at halftime. The Huskies shot 54% from the field in the opening period, including making three of their seven attempts from beyond the arc.
Hampton responded after halftime by limiting Northeastern to just nine made field goals out of thirty-four attempts (27%) in the second half. The Pirates opened with a decisive 13-1 run that shifted momentum. Michael Eley led Hampton with a game-high twenty-one points, including twelve before halftime.
Despite an offensive drought—Northeastern missed all thirteen three-point attempts after intermission—the Huskies mounted a late rally with an eight-to-two run within forty-two seconds to cut Hampton’s lead to four points with two minutes remaining. However, Hampton closed out the win by converting free throws down the stretch.
Northeastern will finish its regular season on Tuesday when it hosts Monmouth at Cabot Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., with coverage available on FloCollege.
