Harrington advances to second day at NCAA wrestling championships with overtime win

Senior Jimmy Harrington of Harvard earned an overtime victory in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships on March 19, advancing to compete on the tournament’s second day. The event is being held at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.

Harrington, seeded No. 20 at 157 pounds, defeated No. 13 seed Derek Raike of Ohio with a score of 4-1 in sudden victory. This marks Harrington’s second consecutive season earning a win at the NCAA Championships. He later lost by fall to No. 4 seed Kaleb Larkin of Arizona State in the second round.

In his opening match, Harrington scored an escape early in the second period and entered overtime tied at one point each after Raike escaped in the third frame. Harrington secured a takedown at the 1:24 mark during sudden victory to clinch his win.

Harrington will next face No. 19 seed Kai Owen of Columbia in the consolation second round on Friday. The next session begins at noon and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and ESPNU.

The NCAA Wrestling Championships continue through Saturday, concluding with final sessions scheduled for March 21.
