Senior Jimmy Harrington and junior Jack Crook secured individual victories for Harvard University in a wrestling dual meet against Columbia University on Saturday at University Gymnasium in New York. Despite these efforts, Harvard fell to Columbia with a final score of 38-9.

Harvard, now holding a 4-6 overall record and 1-3 in Ivy League competition, won two consecutive matches at the 149 and 157-pound weight classes to narrow the team deficit to 15-9. However, Columbia (9-3, 4-0 Ivy) won the last five bouts of the afternoon.

Senior Jimmy Harrington recorded a pin over No. 15 ranked Kai Owen of Columbia at 157 pounds, securing six points for Harvard. “Harrington came up with the fall in the third period to give the Crimson six points in the team score and cut the margin to 15-9,” according to the release.

At 149 pounds, junior Jack Crook earned an 8-1 decision over No. 22 RPI ranked and returning NCAA qualifier Richard Fedalen. The statement noted: “Crook tallied a takedown in each of the second and third periods on his way to the win.”

In another closely contested match, junior Joseph Cangro narrowly lost by decision (8-5) to Cesar Alvan at 165 pounds.

The dual meet began with Columbia’s Sulayman Bah defeating Logan Brzozowski by technical fall at 125 pounds. Other winners for Columbia included Evin Gursoy (133), Lorenzo Frezza (141), Nick Fine (174), Joe Curtis (184), Jack Wehmeyer (197), and Vincent Mueller (285).

Harvard is scheduled to compete next against Hofstra University on Sunday, February 15 at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
