Harvard awards 10,143 degrees at 375th Commencement Exercises

Harvard University awarded a total of 10,143 degrees during its 375th Commencement Exercises, according to a May 29 announcement. The ceremonies recognized graduates from across the university’s schools and programs.

Of the total degrees conferred, Harvard College granted 1,661 degrees. Degrees from the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences were awarded by Harvard College, the Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the Graduate School of Design. All Ph.D. degrees are conferred by the Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

The degree totals include those awarded in November 2025 as well as February and May 2026. Specific breakdowns included: 75 Master of Architecture; 28 Master of Architecture in Urban Design; 71 Master in Design Studies; 66 Master in Landscape Architecture; one Master of Landscape Architecture in Urban Design; 44 Master in Urban Planning; six Doctor of Design; 30 Master in Design Engineering (conferred jointly with SEAS); and 35 Master in Real Estate.

The commencement also featured profiles on graduates, remarks from speakers including a comedy legend who told graduates that “your real education starts now,” urging them to defy the “extreme narcissism” of the times, as well as updates on alumni elected to leadership boards.

Additional events included Phi Beta Kappa speakers encouraging graduates to build character and features highlighting both recipients chosen for their lifetime contributions and transformative achievements.
