Senior first baseman Gio Colasante hit a grand slam for his first home run of the season, but Harvard University baseball lost to Tulane University 11-9 on Saturday at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium in New Orleans.

The Crimson took an early lead, scoring six runs in the second inning and holding an 8-2 advantage by the sixth. However, Tulane rallied with nine of the game’s final ten runs to secure the win.

Colasante ended the game with four RBIs, three runs scored, and three walks. Senior designated hitter Jordan Kang went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Other notable performances included sophomore Liam Wilson, senior Max Lane, first-year Matthew Witkow, and junior Ryan Mooney, each collecting two hits.

On the mound, sophomore left-handed pitcher Luca Alagheband started for Harvard and pitched five innings. He allowed three earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Kang opened the scoring in the first inning with a two-run double. Colasante’s grand slam extended Harvard’s lead to 6-0 in the second. Tulane responded with two runs in their half of the second inning. In the fourth inning, Lane added an RBI single for Harvard before Kang’s RBI single in the sixth gave them an 8-2 lead.

Tulane narrowed the gap by scoring four runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to take a 10-8 lead. Mooney drove in another run for Harvard in the eighth to make it 10-9, but Tulane added a final run on a sacrifice fly.

Harvard finished with 14 hits—including four doubles and a home run—and drew eight walks as a team. Five players had multi-hit games.

The series will conclude on Sunday when Harvard faces Tulane again at 1:00 p.m. ET/12:00 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
