Harvard University baseball will play against Holy Cross in a rescheduled game on March 25 at Fitton Field in Worcester, Massachusetts. This marks the Crimson’s first game of the season within their home state.
The matchup is significant as it is both teams’ first contest this year in Massachusetts, and it represents Harvard’s initial true mid-week contest of the season. The all-time series between Harvard and Holy Cross dates back to 1883, with Harvard trailing 68-106.
Senior infielder and right-handed pitcher Gio Colasante recently earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for his performance as both a batter and pitcher. Colasante hit .412 over four games with six runs, four RBIs, and two home runs. On the mound, he threw six innings allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts during a win against Columbia. He currently leads the Ivy League in home runs and has been named to the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List.
First-year infielder Matthew Witkow has started his rookie campaign with a .255 average and .433 on-base percentage while tallying thirteen hits. Senior Jordan Kang has posted a .273 batting average with fifteen hits and thirteen RBIs so far this season. Sophomore pitchers Luca Alagheband and Andrew Abler have also contributed notable performances early in their campaigns.
The Crimson began their season playing exclusively on the road for their first twenty games, including series at Tulane, Rice, Liberty, California Baptist, Columbia, Cornell, as well as Wednesday’s upcoming contest at Holy Cross. In preseason polling for Ivy League baseball, Harvard was picked to finish fourth out of eight teams.
Looking ahead after facing Holy Cross, Harvard will travel for an Ivy League road series at Cornell beginning March 28.
