Harvard University will host Northeastern University in the semifinals of The Baseball Beanpot on April 7 at O’Donnell Field, with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The matchup is a rematch of last season’s championship game between the two teams.
The event holds significance as it continues a long-standing tradition, with Harvard having won five Beanpot titles since the tournament began in 1990. The Crimson leads the all-time series against Northeastern, holding a record of 69-50-1, though they lost by one run to the Huskies in last year’s final at Fenway Park.
In Tuesday’s game, Harvard left-handed pitcher Luca Alagheband will start against Northeastern right-hander Andrew Basel. The Crimson enters with a season record of 5-16 overall and an even split (4-4) in Ivy League play. Recent performances include a walk-off win over Brown and a series victory over Cornell. Senior infielder and right-handed pitcher Gio Colasante has been recognized as Ivy League Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks due to his contributions both offensively and on the mound.
Other key players include junior shortstop Jack Rickheim, who hit .344 during conference play with three home runs, and senior outfielder Max Lane, who improved his batting average to .321 in league games. Sophomore right-hander Andrew Abler has maintained a 4.17 ERA this year while earning wins as both starter and reliever.
The Crimson played its first nineteen games away from home before returning to Cambridge for conference action. In preseason polls for Ivy League baseball, Harvard was picked to finish fourth among eight teams.
Looking ahead, Harvard is set to play Yale in a three-game series following their Beanpot semifinal appearance.
