Harvard University celebrated its 375th Commencement in Tercentenary Theatre on June 2, bringing together thousands of graduates, families, friends, dignitaries, and volunteers. The event featured joyful scenes across the Yard as attendees gathered to mark the milestone.
Alumni volunteers known as the Commencement “Happy Committee” prepared for festivities while the Middlesex County Volunteers Fifes and Drums joined the procession dressed in Revolutionary-era attire. The Harvard University Band also participated, setting a lively tempo for the occasion. President Alan Garber greeted guests during the celebration.
Commencement speaker Conan O’Brien engaged with attendees on his way to deliver the address from the stage. Other notable participants included Peter J. Koutoujian, Sheriff of Middlesex County, who called the meeting to order; Sanjna Rajagopalan ’26 singing “America the Beautiful”; and Dean of the Faculty of Law John C.P. Goldberg presenting degree candidates.
The ceremony recognized honorands Noel Malcolm, Peggy Noonan, Geoffrey Hinton, and Audra McDonald—who reacted to a surprise musical performance of her song “Wheels of a Dream.” Graduates were seen personalizing their mortarboards while family members expressed pride in their achievements throughout various House luncheons and degree conferral ceremonies.
Following official proceedings, O’Brien was seen walking up Widener Library’s steps as celebrations continued around campus with group photos and gatherings at residential Houses such as Lowell House and Dunster House.
