The Harvard men’s lacrosse team lost its first game of the season to North Carolina on March 29, with a final score of 17-7 at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland. The game featured two of the top five teams in the nation, with Harvard ranked third and North Carolina fourth.
This loss marks an end to Harvard’s unbeaten run, bringing their record to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in Ivy League play. The match was also Harvard’s last non-conference contest before returning to league action.
Jack Speidell led the Crimson offense with three goals, achieving his fourth hat-trick of the season. Logan Ip contributed a goal and two assists for three points. Graham Stevens made 14 saves as goalkeeper. Teddy Malone and John Aurandt IV each added a goal for Harvard, while Michael Savadove caused two turnovers and collected four ground balls.
North Carolina started strong by scoring on its first two possessions. Although Speidell scored early for Harvard, UNC maintained momentum throughout the second quarter with several multi-goal runs that established a commanding lead by halftime. Despite efforts from players like Jack Weissenburger—who scored his first career goal—and continued offensive pushes from Speidell and Malone, Harvard could not close the gap against UNC’s consistent attack.
Looking ahead, Harvard will return home next weekend for Ivy League play against Brown at Jordan Field. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 PM faceoff and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
