Despite overcoming a two-goal deficit late in the game, Harvard’s men’s ice hockey team lost to Brown University in a shootout on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium in Providence.
Brown took an early lead after capitalizing on a loose puck near the crease. Harvard goaltender Charette made 13 saves in the first period, stopping several follow-up attempts by Brown. In the second period, Brown extended its advantage when Charlie Gollob scored during an odd-man rush.
Harvard narrowed the gap when Will Hughes scored his third goal of the season off a pass from Richard Gallant. The Crimson pressed for an equalizer in the third period, firing 34 shots and landing 19 on target. Despite failing to score on two power-play opportunities, Harvard tied the game with less than two minutes remaining after Casey Severo picked up a blocked shot from Mick Thompson and found the net.
Neither team scored during overtime, though Harvard successfully killed a penalty. The game proceeded to a shootout, where Brown prevailed 2-1.
Harvard will travel to face Yale University tomorrow night.
