Yale secured a 3-2 overtime victory against Harvard in men’s ice hockey on Saturday night, splitting the season series between the two Ivy League rivals. The game took place at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Connecticut.

Harvard took an early lead when Will Hughes won a face-off and passed to Matthew Morden, who scored with a shot from the blue line. This marked Morden’s second goal in three games during what has been described as a career season for him on defense.

Yale quickly answered with a point shot that found its way past Harvard goaltender Ben Charette. Although Harvard challenged the play for offsides, officials reviewed the call and upheld the goal, keeping the score tied.

Later in the first period, Hughes assisted again by chipping the puck into open space for Justin Solovey. Solovey managed to get past a Yale defender and scored to give Harvard a 2-1 advantage. Hughes has now recorded three points over his last three periods of play.

Yale tied it up once more with another screened shot before the end of the first period. Harvard had a power play opportunity as time expired but was unable to capitalize.

Both teams created scoring chances in the second period, including a notable save by Charette and an offensive rush by Will McDonough, who nearly tallied his first career goal. However, neither side could break the deadlock heading into overtime.

In extra time, Yale managed to secure the win after working around Harvard’s net and putting a puck off Charette that barely crossed the goal line.

Looking ahead, Harvard will conclude its regular season road schedule next weekend with games against RPI and Union.
