After a strong start to the 2026 season, the No. 12 Harvard men’s lacrosse team is set to face Colgate on Tuesday evening at Jordan Field in Boston. The Crimson, who opened their campaign with a 10-4 win over Providence, will host the Raiders at 7:00 PM, with regional broadcast coverage on NESN.
Harvard’s recent victory improved its record in season openers under head coach Gerry Byrne to 5-1. Historically, Harvard has a dominant 9-1 record against Colgate, though its only loss came last season.
Senior attack Teddy Malone was named Ivy League Player of the Week after leading the team with six points—four goals and two assists—in the opener against Providence. “Malone posted a 60-percent goal contribution clip, factoring in on six of the Crimson’s 10 goals in the game. That percentage is the highest in a game for a Harvard player since 2018, when Morgan Cheek ’18 notched 13 points on 19 Crimson goals against Boston University.” Malone also contributed defensively with two ground balls.
The Crimson defense limited Providence to just one goal over the final 44 minutes of play and allowed only four total goals—a mark tied for their lowest under Byrne. Goalkeeper Graham Stevens recorded eight saves and achieved a career-high save percentage of .667.
Harvard currently ranks No. 14 in the KANE Footwear Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and No. 12 in both USA Lacrosse Magazine Rankings and USILA Coaches Polls. In regional rankings, Harvard sits second in the NEILA Poll.
Colgate enters Tuesday’s matchup with a 1-2 record this season after defeating Hobart but falling to Penn State and Virginia—both ranked opponents. The Raiders have scored an average of about twelve goals per game while allowing over fourteen per contest. Goalie Andrew Lehrman averages more than sixteen saves per game, which ranks third nationally entering this week.
Key players for Colgate include Freddy Fowler (ten points), Casey Quinson (nine goals), and Hunter Drouin (nine points). Defensively, Colgate averages nine caused turnovers per game and has performed well on man-down situations.
Several Harvard players have notable histories against Colgate: Jack Speidell scored five goals in last year’s meeting; Teddy Malone and Logan Ip each have five career points versus Colgate; goalkeeper Graham Stevens made thirteen saves in their previous encounter.
Under Gerry Byrne’s leadership since his arrival seven seasons ago, Harvard has reached two NCAA Tournaments and returned to the Ivy League Tournament last year for the first time since 2016. His overall record stands at 34-24.
In advanced metrics from Lacrosse Reference, Harvard holds national top-five marks for defensive efficiency (second), time of possession (fourth), and cumulative efficiency (fourth).
A trio of captains—Logan Ip, Sean Jordan, and Jack Speidell—will lead Harvard this year as they aim for further postseason success. Ip is noted as one of just seventeen multi-year captains in nearly fifteen decades of program history.
Looking ahead to Saturday, Harvard will host No.1-ranked Syracuse at Jordan Field—a rematch from last year’s NCAA Tournament opening round where both meetings were decided by one goal.
