The Harvard men’s lacrosse team, ranked No. 3 nationally, will play against No. 20 Boston University on March 24 in the second annual Charles River Rivalry game at Nickerson Field. The Crimson enter the matchup with a perfect record of 7-0, while the Terriers stand at 5-3 this season.
This game is significant as it features the only two Division I lacrosse teams in Boston and comes during Harvard’s Ivy League bye week. Both teams are seeking a key win as they approach the final month of regular season play.
Harvard improved to its current record after a recent victory over Dartmouth and is off to its best start since 1990 under head coach Gerry Byrne. The team leads several national categories, including shooting percentage and offensive efficiency, with Teddy Malone topping the squad in goals and points this year. Logan Ip was named Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week following his six-point performance against Dartmouth.
Boston University enters undefeated at home for the season and boasts strong performances from Timothy Shannehan, Peyton Forte, and Jimmy Kohr on offense. Senior defender Connor Kehm leads BU’s defense with high numbers in ground balls and caused turnovers, while goaltender Connor Phillips has recorded a goals-against average of just over ten per game.
Historically, Harvard holds a 9-3 advantage over BU in their series dating back to their first meeting in 1932. Under Byrne’s leadership since 2020, Harvard has maintained winning records both overall and against Patriot League opponents like BU.
Looking ahead, Harvard will travel to Baltimore for a top-five matchup against North Carolina at Archbishop Williams School on March 29.
