Harvard men’s squash is preparing to compete in the first-ever Ivy League Tournament, which will feature the top four teams in the conference. The event is scheduled for this weekend at Princeton, where Harvard enters as the second seed and will play third-seeded Princeton in a semifinal match on Saturday at 10:00 AM. The matches will be held at Princeton’s Squash Facility and broadcast live on the Ivy League Streaming Platform, with real-time results available through ClubLocker.
This tournament marks a new development for Ivy League squash, as both men’s and women’s tournaments are being introduced this year. The format is a four-team knockout competition featuring Penn, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. Semifinal games—Penn vs. Yale and Harvard vs. Princeton—will take place simultaneously on Saturday morning, with winners advancing to Sunday’s championship match.
Alexander Broadbirdge has been a key contributor for Harvard this season, leading the team with nine wins and holding a 9-1 overall record. He has primarily played from the sixth position on the ladder. Teammates Omar Azzam, Christian Capella, and Ishant Shah have each secured eight victories during the campaign; Azzam holds a 6-2 record from third position, Capella is 6-2 in fourth position, while Shah carries a 7-1 mark when playing ninth.
Senior captain Denis Gilevskiy recently moved up to compete at No. 1 on the team ladder and currently has five wins against five losses.
The rivalry between Harvard and Princeton dates back to 1933. Historically, Harvard leads the series with 66 wins to Princeton’s 30; however, Princeton has won their last three meetings—including a close 5-4 victory earlier this season.
Recently, Harvard men’s squash achieved its milestone 1,000th program win following a victory over No. 4 Yale.
Head Coach Mike Way is approaching another significant milestone of his own—he sits at 199 career wins with the men’s team and could reach his 200th victory with one more win. In total across both men’s and women’s teams during his tenure at Harvard spanning fifteen years, Way has accumulated 404 career victories.
After this weekend’s tournament concludes, Harvard will prepare for participation in the CSA Team National Championships set for early March.
