Harvard Men’s Swimming and Diving will send William Mulgrew, a first-year student, and Adriano Arioti, a sophomore, to the 2026 NCAA Championships according to a March 23 announcement. The national competition is scheduled for March 25 through March 28 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
The participation of Mulgrew and Arioti marks an important opportunity for Harvard athletes to compete on the national stage. Their performances could contribute significantly to Harvard’s standing in collegiate swimming.
Mulgrew, from Walpole, is set to swim in both the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle events. He currently holds the third-fastest time nationally in the 1,650 with an Ivy League-best of 14:26.79. Only Zalan Sarkany of Indiana (14:23.85) and Ahmed Jaouadi of Florida (14:25.14) have faster times this season among competitors at nationals; all three are under the 14:30 mark out of a field of thirty-two swimmers. In addition, Mulgrew enters the meet with an eighteenth-ranked time in the country for the 500 free—4:12.03—which is also a program record.
Arioti qualified for nationals after winning Ivies with a time of 1:39.60 in the 200 backstroke event. His performance earned him invitations to race not only in his specialty but also in two additional events—the 100 backstroke (45.90 seconds) and the 200 individual medley (1:43.11). The schedule has him competing Friday for the shorter backstroke distance before returning Saturday for both his main event and medley.
Preliminary heats begin each day at ten o’clock Eastern Time with finals taking place at six p.m., while all sessions will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
Looking ahead, Harvard supporters will be watching closely as Mulgrew and Arioti represent their team against top collegiate swimmers from across America.
