Men’s Volleyball at Harvard University lost to No. 20 New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in a four-set match on Friday night in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The contest was marked by momentum changes and close play from both teams.
The first set saw the Crimson starting slow as NJIT established an early lead. In the second set, Harvard pushed back with a close contest but ultimately fell short as NJIT pulled ahead late to take the set.
Harvard gained momentum in the third set, taking advantage of weaknesses in NJIT’s defense and increasing their pace of play. This adjustment allowed them to win the third set and extend the match. However, NJIT responded in the fourth set and secured the overall victory.
Setter Kai Gan played three of four sets for Harvard, providing consistent ball distribution that kept the team’s offense balanced. Sawyer Nichols and Owen Woolbert each contributed 11 kills to lead Harvard’s attack.
Brian Thomas stood out with seven kills, two solo blocks, four block assists, and a .583 hitting percentage. Oliver Doty added five kills—his career high—in support.
“Brian Thomas delivered one of the strongest all-around performances of the match, recording seven kills, two solo blocks, four block assists, and an efficient .583 hitting percentage — making his presence felt on both sides of the net,” according to a statement from Harvard Men’s Volleyball staff.
The team will face NJIT again in their next conference match scheduled for Friday, February 14th at 5:00 PM.
