Harvard men’s tennis defeated Yale 6-1 in Cambridge on April 12, marking an important victory in the Ivy League season.
The win is significant as it strengthens Harvard’s position within the conference and builds momentum as the team approaches the final weeks of Ivy play.
Andrew Rueb, the Scott Mead ’77 Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Tennis, said, “That was big win today against a very solid Yale team. t took some of our best tennis of the season to beat them.” Rueb also said, “We are peaking at the right time and starting to build some momentum into the final weeks of the Ivy season.”
Harvard secured early control by winning two out of three doubles matches, capturing the doubles point with decisive 6-2 victories on courts two and three. In singles play, Harvard players won all six first sets. Nathan Blokhin earned Harvard’s first singles point with a straight-set win over Jason Shuler from Yale. Masato Perera followed with another strong performance against Ethan Chung.
Melchior Delloye clinched the overall match for Harvard by defeating Eric Li in straight sets. Mitchell Lee added another point before Yale claimed its only singles victory on court two. The last match saw Rohan Murali defeat Vignesh Gogineni—ranked No. 29 nationally—in three sets at No. 1 singles.
Rueb commented further on his team’s effort: “We brought the energy right from the first point in doubles and pushed till the end with Rohan earning another top 30 win at No. 1 singles.” The Crimson will next face Columbia and Cornell away on April 18 and April 19.
