Harvard men’s tennis falls to Penn 4-1 in Ivy League match

Harvard men’s tennis lost to No. 40 Penn by a score of 4-1 on April 5 in Cambridge. The Crimson, now with an overall record of 11-10 and a conference record of 1-1, were unable to overcome the Quakers’ strong performance.

The outcome matters for both teams as they continue their campaigns in the Ivy League. Harvard was looking to build momentum after splitting its weekend matches, while Penn improved its conference standing with the win.

In doubles play, Harvard’s James MacDonald and Masato Perera mounted a comeback on court three after trailing but ultimately the Quakers secured the doubles point by winning two out of three matches. In singles competition, Benjamin Privara delivered Harvard’s only point with a straight-set victory over Luka Butera on court one. However, Penn quickly notched wins on courts three and five before clinching the match with another win on court six.

Other singles matches saw Rohan Murali against Manfredi Graziani end unfinished, as did Nathan Blokhin’s match against Vojtech Vales. The full results listed Penn victories in both doubles and singles across multiple courts.

Looking ahead, Harvard will travel to face Brown University in Providence on Friday, April 10 at 3:00 p.m.
