For the first time, a Harvard field hockey player has been named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Scholar-Athlete. Senior midfielder and team captain Kitty Chapple received the award following her achievements both on the field and in her academic work.
The NFHCA Division I National Scholar-Athlete is given to an All-America First Team selection who holds the highest cumulative grade point average. Chapple, from Somerset, England, is also the first student-athlete from the Ivy League to receive this recognition.
Chapple was a consistent presence in Harvard’s midfield for four seasons. She started all 77 games during her college career, recording eight goals, 19 assists, and 35 points. She is one of only five players in program history to be selected for the All-America First Team. In addition to this honor, she earned All-Ivy League honors four times and was chosen three times for the NFHCA Northeast All-Region team.
Academically, Chapple distinguished herself by earning NFHCA Scholar of Distinction honors each year she played. This award is given to student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher at season’s end.
Chapple led Harvard back to the NCAA Tournament Semifinals in 2025—only the second time in school history that feat has been accomplished. That season, Harvard finished with a record of 19-2 and completed its first perfect regular season within Ivy League play while setting a new school record for most wins in one year.
