Harvard Sailing won the Marchiando Trophy Team Race for the second year in a row and finished fourth at the Dellenbaugh Trophy Women’s Team Race, according to a March 30 announcement.
These results mark five consecutive spring weekends with at least one regatta win for Harvard, a streak not seen in Cambridge since at least the 2008-09 season. The consistent performance highlights the team’s ongoing success this spring.
At the MIT-hosted Marchiando Trophy Team Race, Harvard finished with a record of 13-2. After starting Day 1 tied for third place, Harvard surged on Sunday to secure victory through a head-to-head win over Dartmouth. The team was represented by Justin Callahan-Christina Chen, Mitchell Callahan-Rosella Irfan, and Harrison Strom-Jacob Posner. Their efforts included key victories against teams such as Yale, U.S. Coast Guard, Old Dominion, Penn, Roger Williams, St. Mary’s College of Maryland, Rhode Island and Dartmouth.
In Cranston, Rhode Island at the Dellenbaugh Trophy Women’s Team Race, Harvard achieved its fourth top-five finish in women’s team racing this spring. The Crimson matched last year’s best result since 2019 by tying with Yale for third-best record but placed fourth due to tiebreaker rules based on race points between the two teams. Key participants included Sophia Montgomery (A-division skipper), Hanah Youn, Theresa Straw and Katherine Shin; Kate Danielson (B-entry skipper) assisted by JJ Drummond and Shin; Zoey Ziskind (C-division skipper) with Amelie Zucker as crew.
During Round 1 of the Dellenbaugh event, Harvard posted a strong finish after winning four straight races late on Day 1. In Sunday’s Top 6 Gold round they split their first three outings before finishing with important wins over Yale and Roger Williams University.
Looking ahead, Harvard is scheduled to compete next weekend at both the Fowle Trophy (NEISA Open Team Racing Championship) in Cranston and at the Yale Women’s Team Race in New Haven.
