Harvard University’s skiing team completed its participation at the Williams Carnival, held in Hancock, Massachusetts and Woodford, Vermont. The event concluded on Saturday after two days of alpine and nordic competition.
Sophomore Duncan Armstrong led the Crimson’s alpine results with an 11th-place finish in the men’s giant slalom on day one and a 12th-place result in the men’s slalom on day two. Armstrong’s performance marked his eighth top-30 finish of the season and seventh top-20 effort. His time in the men’s slalom was 1:37.26, earning him 28 EISA points and 20 NCAA points.
In women’s alpine events, sophomore Skylar Sheppard finished 20th in the giant slalom on Friday for her sixth top-30 finish this year. First-year Caroline Collins placed 39th in Saturday’s women’s slalom.
On the nordic side at Prospect Mountain, Harvard achieved three top-30 finishes during Friday’s races. Senior Hayden McJunkin came in 17th place in the women’s 10k freestyle with a time of 30:01.1, securing her sixth top-30 and fourth top-20 result of the season. Junior Meredith Schwartz took 24th place, while sophomore Bennett Hutchison led Harvard’s men with a 26th-place finish in their 10k freestyle.
All five Harvard competitors in the women’s 10k freestyle placed within the top 33. Junior Clara Lake, sophomore Hanna Wilsey, and junior Breagh Bridge rounded out those positions.
The Crimson women’s nordic team finished sixth both in Friday’s 10k freestyle and Saturday’s 3×5 classic relay. In that relay event, Harvard’s best entry posted a time of 52:03.0 for sixth place.
As a team, Harvard ranked eighth among fourteen Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) schools with a total of 318 points.
Next on Harvard’s schedule is competition at the Middlebury Carnival and NCAA Regional Championships from February 20 to February 21. Alpine events will take place at Middlebury Snowbowl in Hancock, Vermont; nordic events are set for Rikert Outdoor Center in Ripton, Vermont.
