Harvard softball won both games against Cornell on April 3 to start its weekend series in Ithaca. The Crimson, now with a record of 13-14-1 overall and 5-3 in the Ivy League, overcame deficits in both games to secure the victories.
These wins are important for Harvard as they strengthen their position within the Ivy League standings and demonstrate resilience after falling behind early in game one.
In the first game, Harvard came back from a four-run deficit to win 8-7. Nicolette Hunter played a key role by pitching over six innings and contributing two hits, including an RBI during a seventh-inning rally. Sophie Sun also helped spark the comeback with her sixth home run of the season. Audrey Szollosi and Sheila Forbes contributed critical hits late in the game, allowing Harvard to take its first lead since the opening inning.
The momentum continued into game two as Harvard defeated Cornell 6-2. Szollosi led offensively by going four-for-four at bat and making several defensive plays. The Crimson pulled ahead after capitalizing on wild pitches and errors by Cornell late in the game.
Other highlights included six different players recording RBIs for Harvard in game one, while Sun added three hits across both contests. The team will conclude its series against Cornell tomorrow at noon.
