Harvard Men’s Swimming and Diving first-year athlete William Mulgrew was named to the 2026 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association NCAA Division I All-America Second Team, according to a March 31 announcement from the CSCAA. Mulgrew received this recognition for his performance in the 1,650 freestyle at the NCAA Championships.
This honor highlights Mulgrew’s ninth-place finish in the event at last week’s NCAA meet in Atlanta, Georgia. The Ivy League champion recorded a time of 14:40.07 and became Harvard’s first All-American since Dean Farris (100 backstroke) and Umitcan Gures (100 butterfly) achieved the distinction in 2022.
Mulgrew’s result contributed nine points to Harvard’s overall team score, allowing the Crimson to place in the final team standings for the first time since 2022. The team’s participation at this year’s NCAA Championships concluded a season where Harvard posted an overall dual-meet record of eight wins and one loss, including six wins against Ivy League opponents.
The achievement marks a significant milestone for both Mulgrew as an individual competitor and for Harvard Men’s Swimming and Diving as a program returning to national prominence after several years.
