Harvard track and field athletes post strong results at Raleigh Relays

Harvard track and field athletes posted strong performances in distance events at the Raleigh Relays, according to a Mar. 26 announcement from the team.

The meet featured several Harvard runners making their outdoor debuts and achieving notable times among large fields of competitors. The results are seen as a positive start to the team’s weekend competitions.

In the men’s 1500 meters, first-year Grant Schroder finished in 146th place with a time of 3:51.96 during his outdoor track debut. Fellow first-year Arashi Hunter clocked in at 3:52.20 for a 149th-place finish, while Andrew Thornton-Sherman opened his outdoor career by placing 214th with a time of 3:58.98.

A standout performance came from first-year Tam Gavenas, who finished tenth out of 187 runners in the men’s 5000 meters with a time of 13:41.43—ranking fourth all-time in Harvard program history. Junior Owen Bosley also placed within the top hundred, finishing in 104th place with a time of 14:26.14. Junior Ethan Aidam ran the event in 14:51.05 for a placement of 168th, while sophomore William Brunner was close behind at position number 174 with a time of 14:52.59.

Junior Charlie Ortmans, who is the Ivy League’s reigning champion in both indoor season’s men’s 5000m and men’s 3000m events, took fifth place in the men’s ten thousand meters with a time of 28:29.37; junior Sam Burgess followed him by securing thirteenth place after finishing in under twenty-nine minutes.

The team is set to continue its weekend competition tomorrow as it participates on day two at both the Raleigh Relays and D’Amour Invitational held in Lowell, Massachusetts.
