Harvard University’s track and field teams are preparing for a busy weekend as they compete in three separate meets. The Crimson will host the Crimson Open and also participate in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational and the Tiger Paw Invitational on February 13 and 14.

Fans can follow the Crimson Open on ESPN+, while FloTrack will broadcast the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Coverage of the Tiger Paw Invitational will be available live on ACC Network Extra.

Recently, Harvard athletes set two new school records at the Riverhawk Invitational held at the TRACK at new balance. First-year athlete Arpad Kovacs broke the men’s 400m record with a time of 46.56 seconds, surpassing Gregory Lapit’s previous mark of 46.98 from 2022. Kovacs is now one of four Ivy League runners this season to complete the event in under 47 seconds.

Junior Amari Turner also made history by becoming the first Harvard athlete to run a sub-21 second time in the men’s indoor 200m, finishing in 20.77 seconds. Turner’s performance ranks him second in the Ivy League this season and ties him for 16th nationally. For his achievements, Turner was named Ivy League Men’s Athlete of the Week for the first time.

On the women’s side, sophomore Ella Cooper won her event in the 200m with a personal-best time of 23.69 seconds, which places her sixth all-time in Ivy League history.

Other notable performances include junior Sophia Gorriaran’s time of 2:01.30 in the women’s 800m at the Dr. Sander Scorcher meet, ranking her third nationally, and junior Tito Alofe’s high jump clearance of 2.21 meters (7’3″) at the Harvard Invitational, tying him for sixth nationally.

The team captains for Harvard are seniors Jonas Clarke and Daire Mahon for men, and seniors Mfonsio Andrew, Jacklynn Okereke along with junior Alice Mihas for women.

Jason Saretsky is serving his twentieth season as The William W. “Bill” McCurdy Director of Track and Field/Cross Country.

Looking ahead, Harvard will conclude its indoor regular season next weekend by competing at Boston University’s Track & Tennis Center during the Saucony Battle for Boston on February 22.
