Both Harvard men’s and women’s track & field teams secured third place at the 2026 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Championships, held over two days at The Armory in New York. The women’s team scored 88 points, while the men’s team finished with 83.
Harvard athletes achieved five individual Ivy League titles during the competition. Junior Charlie Ortmans won both the men’s 3000m and 5000m events, setting a new meet record in the latter with a time of 13:40.51. This surpassed the previous record set by Acer Iverson in 2022.
Junior Sophia Gorriaran took first place in both the women’s mile (4:43.36) and women’s 800m, where she set a new meet record with a time of 2:04.25. Both Ortmans and Gorriaran were named Most Outstanding Track Athletes for their performances, with Gorriaran sharing her honor with Penn’s Fore Abinusawa.
Junior Amari Turner became Harvard’s first-ever indoor men’s 200m champion by finishing in 21.21 seconds.
First-year Yannick Kraus made his debut at the championships by breaking Harvard’s school record in the men’s heptathlon with 5,288 points, finishing third overall. Kraus set personal bests in several events during this performance.
Other notable results included first-year Joachim Johnson placing eighth in men’s triple jump and second in high jump; first-year Dylan McElhinney finishing fourth in the women’s mile; junior Simon Weiser taking eighth place in men’s 60 hurdles; and first-year Abigail Dennis securing second place and All-Ivy League Second Team honors in women’s 60 hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.35 seconds.
Senior Justin Levy ran a personal-best of 1:02.31 to finish fourth in the men’s 500m final, moving to second all-time at Harvard for that event.
In relay events, Harvard’s men’s team placed third in the 4x800m relay (7:34.27), ranking eighth all-time for Harvard, while their men’s team also finished fourth in the men’s 4x400m relay (3:11.79), moving to seventh all-time for Harvard.
The competition concluded with Harvard’s women’s team taking second place and All-Ivy League Second Team status in the women’s 4x400m relay (3:39.80).
Harvard will next compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 13-14, held this year in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
