The Harvard Women’s Heavyweight Rowing team began its spring season on April 3 at the Ohio State Regatta in Columbus, Ohio. Competing at Griggs Reservoir, the No. 13-ranked Black and White faced rainy weather and strong winds but achieved notable performances across five events.

The regatta is significant as it marks the start of Harvard’s competitive spring schedule, offering an early test against top-ranked opponents including No. 20 Ohio State.

Harvard-Radcliffe’s Third Varsity Eight started the day by placing fourth in a challenging field with a time of 7:37.4. The Second Varsity Four followed closely behind Ohio State to take second place at 7:57.4. The First Varsity Four then secured Harvard-Radcliffe’s first win of the day, finishing ahead of the Buckeyes with a time of 7:32.0.

Momentum continued as the Second Varsity Eight claimed a decisive nine-second victory over Ohio State, clocking in at 6:52.4 for another event win. In one of the most competitive races, Harvard-Radcliffe’s First Varsity Eight finished just behind Ohio State by only 1.5 seconds, taking second place with a time of 6:37.4.

Other results included lineups for each boat and detailed race times for all entries from both schools and additional competitors such as North Carolina and Indiana University in the Third Varsity Eight event.

Looking ahead, Harvard-Radcliffe will compete again on Saturday morning for day two of racing at Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, with events scheduled to begin at 8:40 a.m.
