Harvard women’s lightweight rowing advances all boats to IRA National Championship finals

Harvard women’s lightweight rowing advanced all three boats into the A Finals at the IRA National Championship Regatta on Lake Natoma, according to a May 30 announcement. The Harvard-Radcliffe doubles, varsity four, and varsity eight each posted performances that qualified them for Sunday’s finals and kept them in medal contention.

Day two of the championship featured the first races for the women’s lightweight division. The Radcliffe doubles team of Kiera Mariko Dwan and Stella Sweitzer competed in the morning’s opening race. The duo led early through 1500 meters before being challenged by Wisconsin but secured a spot in Sunday’s A Final with a time of 7:48.800, just 0.24 seconds ahead of Wisconsin.

The varsity four boat, stroked by Michaela D’Arcy, finished second in its heat behind Boston University with a time of 7:44.410. Harvard maintained more than a ten-second margin over Stanford, which held off Georgetown for the final qualifying position in Sunday’s A Final.

In other results from heat two, Harvard’s double sculls placed first with a time of 7:48.800; Boston University led the varsity four at 7:37.310 while Harvard followed; and Harvard’s varsity eight won its heat with a time of 6:45.310 ahead of Stanford (6:50.830), Georgetown (6:53.420), and Wisconsin (6:58.480).

Sunday’s race schedule lists finals for each boat class beginning at 11:08 a.m. Eastern Time for doubles, followed by varsity four at 11:32 a.m. and varsity eight at 1:38 p.m.
