Harvard Women’s Lightweight Rowing won the Class of 1999 Cup against Princeton on April 4, marking its first victory in the event in six years. The races took place in Princeton, New Jersey, under sunny skies and favorable rowing conditions.
The event is significant as it ended a multi-year winning streak by Princeton and highlighted Harvard’s strong performance across several categories. The Black and White team secured victories in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Four, and Doubles events.
The day began with Harvard’s Second Varsity Four pulling ahead of Princeton by more than ten seconds to claim a decisive win. In the Doubles race, Harvard finished with a lead of nearly eight seconds. Although Harvard’s Varsity Four fought hard, they were outpaced by Princeton by eight seconds.
The highlight came during the Varsity Eight race when Harvard narrowly defeated Princeton by 2.5 seconds to reclaim the Class of 1999 Cup for the first time since their last win six years ago.
According to official results, Harvard-Radcliffe completed the Varsity Eight in 6:52.9 compared to Princeton’s time of 6:55.4. Other lineups included strong showings from various rowers across all events.
Looking ahead, Harvard-Radcliffe will continue its season next weekend at Cherry Hill, New Jersey for the Knecht Cup scheduled for April 11-12.
